British research institute, Juniper Research, predicts BlackBerry will lose most of its market share in developing countries which have been the major markets, including Indonesia and South Africa.
BlackBerry market share decline is not separated from other smart phone manufacturers effort that intensified expanding user base in developing countries. "In fact, in the strongest market for BlackBerry, such as South Africa and Indonesia, the competition gets tougher to make other phone vendors looking for new growth areas," said Michael Wiggins, an analyst at Juniper Research.
However, according to Juniper Research, sales of BlackBerry phones this year more than last year.
For developing countries, rely BlackBerry Q5 models running BlackBerry 10 operating system. This phone is planned to be marketed to Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Latin America. However, recent BlackBerry will also be selling Q5 in Indonesia.
BlackBerry is still releasing phones with the old operating system, one of which is the BlackBerry 9720.
Juniper Research predicts Apple and Samsung will still dominate the global smartphone market in the next five years, both of which are projected to send 800 million units of smartphones in 2018.
