International Last Year, Global Conflicts Cost Spend 14 Billion US Dollars

A think tank based in New York, the US Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) in its latest report mentions a total of 14 trillion dollars squandered in various world conflicts throughout 2014.

Money is squandered on the war is equivalent to the combined GDP of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Canada, Spain and Brazil. Executive Director of the IEP, Steve Kilelea said reducing armed conflict is the only way to fix the world economy. "If the global violence decreased 10 percent, then the money of 1.43 trillion dollars could effectively be added to the world economy," said Kilelea.

Global Peace Index IEP that has been published since 2008 that uses 23 indicators and three major themes, namely the level of security and safety in the community, the influence of domestic and international conflicts and the level of militarization. This year the level of conflict around the world relatively unchanged.

On the other hand, the index for peace in 86 countries declined while peace in 76 countries increased. Peace index decline was largely concentrated in the Middle East and Africa. Syria became the most dangerous country followed by Iraq and Afghanistan. Libya became the country with the peace index slumped most sharply and is now the least peaceful country 14th. Whereas Ukraine became the second country to index the most degenerate peace. The report also highlights the number of people killed in various conflicts which increased up to 350 percent within the last decade. In 2010 was 49,000 people have died in armed conflicts in the world. Only four years ago the number of dead has become 180,000.

Most of the deaths that fell only in five countries, namely Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan and Syria. At the other end of this report featuring Iceland and Denmark became the most peaceful country in the world. Along with the general trend of improvement of continental Europe continued peace with the low number of murders and crimes. "The year 2014 was marked by two contradictory trends. On the one hand, many countries are reaching peace but on the other hand the countries in conflict, especially in the Middle East are becoming increasingly tough," said Kilelea. "And the concern is when these conflicts are not resolved they then spread terrorism to other countries," added Kilelea.
