At least 80 people were known to have been killed in a series of earthquakes in the area of southwest China,
after rescuers managed to reach some remote areas.
More than 730 people were injured after an earthquake shook the province of Yunnan and Guizhou on Friday (07/09), Chinese state media reported.
Most of the deaths are found in the region of Yiliang County, Yunnan Province, an official said.
Shocks earthquake struck much of the mountain, causing a landslide that closed a number of roads.
The U.S. Geological Survey recorded the power of the two strongest earthquake reaching 5.6 magnitude.
Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao is expected to arrive in the worst hit areas in the quake.
China's Xinhua news agency quoted an official as saying in Yunnan, approximately 6650 homes were destroyed and 430,000 were partially damaged in various areas in the province.
More than 100,000 people have been evacuated, Xinhua reported, while the Red Cross has sent 650 tents and 3,000 blankets to the region.
Muster troops
Chinese authorities have reportedly deployed troops to help the worst team in the quake.
"As a result of a landslide that covered the main streets, rescuers had to climb the mountain to reach the locations affected by the earthquake," said Mayor Luozhe in Yunnan Province, Li Fuchun, as quoted by the local media.
The quake also caused a communication via telephone to crash, according to some reports said.
China Television footage showed hundreds of people gathered in the streets against the backdrop of the ruins of the house.
Chinese citizens who use the social networking Weibo reported pangik people look when out of the office building.
A number of photos uploaded on various online sites also showed streets filled with rubble.
Some rescuers said they were concerned about the condition of the children victims of the earthquake that looks pathetic.
"We are very concerned about the condition of the children, who may have been separated from their parents, due to anticipation of aftershocks," said the head of Save the Children in China, Pia MacRaen.
Tremor was also felt up in Sichuan Province, which in 2008 was rocked by an earthquake measuring 7.8 magnitude that left thousands dead.
