Hong Kong's exports surged 26.7 percent in June,

official data showed Tuesday (27/07/2010), because trade in Asia combined with strong shipments to the United States and Europe.

Total value of shipments rose to 267.6 billion dollars Hong Kong (34.44 billion U.S. dollars) last month, according to the Census and Statistics Department, the growth of eight consecutive months in the year-to-year.

The increase was driven by a 79.9 percent increase in telecommunications and sound recording equipment, leap 28 percent in electrical machinery and equipment and 17.7 percent increase in office machines, the agency said.

Exports to Asia, including India, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia, driven by an increase in the year-to-year 27.4 percent, the agency said.

Exports to the Netherlands and the U.S. also recovered strongly with the increase in year-to-year respectively 42.4 percent and 29.4 percent.

During the first six months, exports rose 25.1 per cent of Hong Kong
year-to-year. "Exports of merchandise increased further in June, mainly reflecting strong growth in Asian markets and a gradual recovery in the advanced economies," said government spokesman.

"(But) the level of uncertainty in the external trading environment remained high, especially considering the savings measures to be implemented in many European economies, including the reduction of the increase in economic stimulus measures the U.S. before," he added.
