Referendum about the Border

Slovenia gives residents voting on a referendum to decide whether or not the international negotiating team resolve a border dispute with Croatia.

The vote, which was opened during the 12 hours it will become a test case for the popularity of Prime Minister Borut Pahor. If the result the majority of citizens reject negotiator team, the popularity of leftist governments Pahor will decline. In fact, some analysts predict will lead to pelengseran Pohur.

Pahor said the deal will be a window to history to resolve disputes that had lasted 19 years. He added that the rejection of the entry of international negotiators will result in Slovenia is considered as an intruder state in the eyes of the Western world.

The core dispute was the border that separates the Adriatic coastal waters of Slovenia with Croatia to break away from Yugoslavia in 1991. Both also claim ownership of four other villages in the border region.

Slovenia declared, the area of waters should be more widely to reach the open sea. Meanwhile, Croatian Slovenian waters claimed boundary line far from the sea.
