President Barack Obama in a speech at the White House, Monday (21/07/2014), said the Foreign Minister had sent John Kerry to the Middle East to complete the ongoing violence in the Gaza Strip.
"I have instructed the Secretary Kerry seek to accelerate the cessation of violence by November 2012 ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel," Obama said.
Obama added, completing the work force will not be easy.
However, Foreign Minister Kerry will do anything to facilitate the cessation of violence so that no more civilians lost their lives.
Furthermore, Obama asserted, the United States Government regrets the loss of life among civilians in both the Gaza Strip and Israel. Thus, Obama continued, the international community should focus on accelerating the ceasefire between Israel and the Gaza Strip.
However, Obama reiterated that Israel has the right to defend itself from rocket attacks and infiltration from the tunnels from the Gaza Strip.
"As a result, the Israeli military launched an operation which has so far managed to destroy the infrastructure of Hamas," Obama said.
The military operation "Protective Edge" held Israel to halt Hamas rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip has lasted 14 days. So far more than 500 Gazans have been killed and 1,300 people injured. While on the Israeli side, 20 people died, mostly army personnel.
